Ended the war between Dualsense and the Xbox wireless controller

During the great pandemic of 2020, there were struggles, pain and boredom… Until November of that year when the next generation consoles came out, people were free from the shackles of boredom. Although, people were at war with which each other to discover which of the next-generation controllers was superior compared to the other. Now with our help, you will finally understand the facts and details of which controller is better.

Design and ergonomics

Well, in my opinion, Sony has shifted to developing its controllers to feel and look a bit more like Xbox’s, however, they do have some design differences. First off, let’s talk about size and dimensions, the ps5 comes with a height of 106mm, a width of 160mm and a depth of 66 mm which is honestly a little bigger than the previous sony controller. Now on the other hand, the Xbox series X/S is 101.9 mm high, 152.9 mm wide and has a depth of 61 mm which is also larger in comparison to its previous generation and smaller in comparison to the dualsense. Based on observation, the dualsense’s new shape alteration is due to the improvement to be ergonomic and comfortable for Microsoft players, so they can stop whining about sony’s controllers (just joking, but honestly, Sony’s older models were not that comfortable).

Design and ergonomics part 2

In comparison to Microsoft, they have always produced controllers that are consistently comfortable and ergonomic but follow the same design pattern as the previous generations. I don’t think need to explain how pleasant and comfortable the older-generation Xbox controllers were. If we are comparing Xbox’s newest controller and the previous one, there would be not much of a change because there is not much to improve on. They are that good. The only significant changes they’ve done is by providing a heftier grip and a more improved dpad. Their new dpad is much better in comparison to the previous counterparts and would argue this it is more comfortable than the dualsense’s. But overall, both controllers had improved over their previous generations.

features and functionality

Both controllers have added new features and improved functionality. The dualsenses have added the new “adaptive triggers” concept and haptic feedback which was designed to enhance the gameplay environment. The adaptive triggers will create various levels of force as you interact with in-game scenarios, and with the combination of the haptic vibration as well, is more designed to feel like your in the game. whereas Xbox has added tactile feedback and impulse triggers which is the same as Sony’s haptic feedback and has impulse triggers that just create vibrations which is not as good as PlayStation.

Performance and responsiveness

With the use of the Xinput test software, we have been able to test out the input latency for each controller. Xbox series X/S controllers (need to give it an abbreviated name hmm… how about XSX?) have been reported to have an average of 8 milliseconds which is very fast. I know what your thinking, 8 milliseconds like wow! But the dualsense has shown a dramatic speed of 4 milliseconds which is half of the XSX’s input lag. This means that the dualsense will provide faster response times but honestly, if your, not a professional gamer that plays fps games all the time, then you won’t know the difference.

Price and value

Well in Amazon Australia, the dualsense sits under $109.95 where as the XSX sits under $94.95. To be fair, the dualsense right now offers more features and is faster than the XSX so it makes sense to be $15 more expensive. The durability of Both controllers is impressive although, it will break if thrown like a tomahawk. When it comes to battery life, Xbox takes it here. According to Xbox, they said that their XSX lasts up to “30 hours” which is incredibly long compared to a PlayStation controller. Dualsense only lasts half the time but this is because it does not use AA batteries any more. So battery life is a massive difference there. Another positive for Xbox wireless controllers is that if you have a PC you can connect it, unlike the dualsense. I know this isn’t a massive feature, but it’s there if you wanted to connect. But when considering the other functional and design features, it’s understandable that both controllers are $90+.

Overall…

The war has ended… in a stalemate. There are times at which one controller would be superior to the other. For example, the dualsense is more suited to casual gamers that want to enjoy a game with a more theatric experience whereas the XSX is more suited to more competitive gamers as it has a longer battery life and feels more comfortable for those repetitive button clicks. So if you’re a casual gamer, sony’s controller is more favourable, or if you’re a competitive gamer, yeah the Xbox series X/S controller is better.
